Top Five Tips for a Magical Midlife
If you have spent decades caring for everyone else, now is the time to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Self-care is more than finding the odd half hour to enjoy a candle lit bath or sit on the beach. It is about building a life you can thrive in physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Our Sisters Enchanted community is a varied and wondrous group of magical women of all ages. We have many moms looking for ways to bring more intentional living and carve out some self-care in their busy family schedules. Another large chunk of our community are women in their midlife, 50 and beyond and we have several Holistic Witchery students in their 70s.
It may seem too late to start living intentionally in your midlife. This may be a time when others around you may find it more of a surprise when they see you embrace your witchy side for the first time.
But actually, there are many reasons why midlife is a really good time to get connected with your inner magic and live your best, intentional life.
It is a time when many of us have more time to explore new things, with children leaving home for college. We may have more financial freedom, with mortgages and debts paid off. Above all, midlife is a time when we have really discovered who we are and the values that are important to us. It can also be a time in life when we are most comfortable with ourselves and less bothered by ‘keeping up appearances’ and living to others’ expectations.
Here are our top tips to living a magical and intentional midlife:
1. Change your stories
We all have shadows, those stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and our inadequacies and limitations. By the time we reach midlife, we have collected a large assembly of shadows, but the good news is that it is never too late to change your story. Shadow work is all about exploring the stories you tell yourself that hold you back and cause you to get in the way of yourself and the best life you deserve. Explore your shadows and change these stories. Let go of what others have expected of you in the past and of the limiting beliefs that formed your past. Start fresh and start telling yourself a new story where everything is possible for you.
Never think you can’t have something because it is too late, because it wasn’t the choice you made earlier in life, because this is what other people have. Change all these stories and create the life you want
What can you do right now to make the most of the life you have left? What will you do in your next chapter of life?
2. Make Self-Care your priority
If you have spent decades caring for everyone else, now is the time to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Self-care is more than finding the odd half hour to enjoy a candle lit bath or sit on the beach. It is about building a life you can thrive in physically, mentally and spiritually. Reflect and journal on what a healthy life looks like and feels like for you. What healthy choices can you make each day?
Treat every day as a new chance to improve your life, to get to know yourself and discover how you need to treat yourself better and to choose to be a better version of yourself.
3. Live in joy
Find what you love to do and what makes you happy. The most magical way of living is to live a life filled with joy. Make a list of what excites you, what makes you smile, what makes you laugh and fills your Soul with joy.
Think about things you did before you had children, the things you loved to do when you were a child.
Dance, paint, play, experiment.
Learn new things and new skills
Re-discover that child-like fascination and love of magic you felt when you were a child – read your childhood favorite stories, or stories you enjoyed reading with your children, about fairies, witches, wizards and magical worlds.
Believe that you can make this magic real in your own life.
4. Don’t worry about what others think
Kelly Sroka, founder of the Broom and Moon Coven, Kelly is proud to be one of our midlife members of The Sisters Enchanted and recently shared with us how she came to embrace and love her authentic, magical self in her midlife.
Kelly has found her family and most of those close to her to be supportive and encouraging of her magical life. To those who think she is not on a good path, Kelly feels,
“They don’t know me and how I’ve gotten here. I think for them, I would explain it and just say, this is the path that I’m on and I know I’m on the right path for me.”
If you are being your true, authentic self then no-one has the right to judge or disapprove so go shine your magical light bright for all to see with pride and enjoy being you and no linger living restrained by others’ expectations for you.
5. You don’t have to do it alone.
Whatever it is that you are imagining and wishing to create for your life, someone else has been in a similar position. There are many people just like Kelly here in our Sisters Enchanted community who would just love to help and support you in your quest for a magical midlife. Why not come join us.
