Tarot has always held a special place in my heart, being my gateway into metaphysics and all things witchery. It all started when I was a teenager, babysitting on Friday nights. After the little ones were tucked into bed, I would pull out my Tarot cards, a simple notebook, and a pen. It was just me, the cards, and my thoughts in a world where the internet was not as omnipresent as it is today. These were the days of Ask Jeeves, not Google, and there was no YouTube or social media to provide instant answers. I had to rely on the answers within me rather crowdsourcing my answers.
I cherish those early memories because they represent a time when learning Tarot was deeply personal and introspective.
Fast forward to today, and Tarot remains a cornerstone of my practice. As the founder of the Sisters Enchanted, I’ve been sharing this passion since 2016, teaching Tarot to thousands of people through our programs and free classes. Our community has grown tremendously, and it’s incredible to see so many people embracing their Tarot practice.
Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite suits in Tarot—the suit of Pentacles. The Pentacles, along with the Wands, hold a special place in my heart. They are my favorite suits, each telling a unique and nurturing story that resonates deeply with the cycles of life and creation.
The Earthy Energy of Pentacles
The suit of Pentacles is aligned with the energy of Earth, the season of winter, and the direction of north. It’s all about planting seeds for our journey, nurturing them, and watching them grow. The Pentacles often represent root chakra energy—finances, career, and the physical world around us. They remind us of stability, financial security, and the importance of nurturing our dreams.
The Journey Through Pentacles
The Ace of Pentacles, like all minor arcana suits, begins with a hand emerging from a cloud, holding a pentacle. This symbolizes a new opportunity or seed that we are planting.
The Two of Pentacles is a card that I adore. It shows a figure balancing two pentacles in an infinity loop, with a rolling ocean and ships in the background. This card beautifully illustrates the continuous motion and balance in our lives. Even when we rest, it’s part of the motion. It’s a reminder that we are always interacting with our desires, nurturing our goals, and navigating life’s ups and downs.
Moving to the Three of Pentacles, we see the importance of teamwork and collaboration. The Four of Pentacles warns us about holding on too tightly to our resources or expectations. The Five of Pentacles can lead to a sense of isolation, as depicted where two figures walk through the snow, feeling destitute. However, if they lift their heads, they would see a source of support, reminding us that we are never truly alone.
The journey through the Pentacles continues with the Six of Pentacles, a card of generosity and mindful giving. It teaches us to be aware of where we direct our energy and resources, ensuring that our generosity aligns with our values. The Seven of Pentacles reminds us to keep working, even when we feel tired. The Eight of Pentacles shows the refinement of our skills, while the Nine and Ten of Pentacles depict the rewards of our labor—abundance, happiness, and wisdom.
The Pentacles tell a nurturing and reassuring story, but also caution us against holding on too tightly to our desires. When we feel stuck, it’s essential to look within and around us for support and new opportunities. This suit is about the long game, requiring patience, persistence, and trust in the process.
Contrast with the Suit of Wands
In contrast, the suit of Wands represents the fast, fiery energy of creation. It’s about the passionate spark and the experience of bringing ideas to life. The Wands are aligned with summer and fire energy, embodying the excitement and quick movement of new beginnings. While Pentacles focus on the behavior and long-term nurturing of our creations, Wands capture the immediate, vibrant energy of the creative process.
Both suits, Pentacles and Wands, highlight different aspects of creation. The Pentacles ask us to be steady and persistent, while the Wands encourage us to embrace the passion and excitement of new ideas. Together, they provide a comprehensive understanding of the creative journey, balancing the slow, nurturing energy with the quick, fiery spark.
Tarot for Insight
As we explore these suits, you can see clearly that Tarot offers valuable insights and guidance for our lives. The Pentacles teach us to nurture our dreams patiently, while the Wands remind us to embrace the passion and energy of creation. Each card in the Tarot deck holds a piece of wisdom, guiding us on our journey through life’s cycles.
Remember, whether you’re new to Tarot or a seasoned practitioner, there’s always something new to discover. Embrace the journey, trust the process, and enjoy the magic that Tarot brings into your life.
