Valinda Cochella is one of our good friends and guest teachers here at the Sisters Enchanted. She is a wonderful medium and provided our super exciting ‘Moon Centered Kalinda Yoga’ course that we offer as part of our ‘Holistic Witchery’ program.
We asked Valinda to tell us a bit more about herself and some fun facts so you can all get to know her better.
Hi! My name is Valinda Cochella. I’ve been married almost 20 years and have an almost 17 year old Neuro-diverse daughter.
I moved to California from Mississippi after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication & a Minor in Dance in 1989 and never looked back!
I lived in Santa Barbara, CA almost 10 years…..I really thought when I moved to California at 21 all my problems would just disappear HaHa…I actually hit rock bottom and was having panic attacks and getting drunk every night (working as a Cocktail waitress) trying to run away from my past.
Therapy saved my life! I started seeing a Therapist in 1990 (fun fact she’s still my therapist on Zoom when I need her!) She actually encouraged me to become a Therapist and I got my Master’s Degree from UCLA in Dance-Movement Therapy in 1994 and worked as a Dance-Movement Therapist for many years in Santa Barbara, CA.
My best friend at the time was practicing Yoga and invited me to a class, I remember being so freaked out the first time I heard them chanting OMMMMMMM…. But then I fell in LOVE with it and never looked back.
I’ve been teaching Yoga & Meditation for 21 years. I will be 55 this year!
I now run my own Kundalini Yoga & Meditation teacher trainings (online and in-person), after leading 3 Hatha Yoga teacher trainings in person. Kundalini Yoga & Meditation is my passion!
We asked Valinda to give us a pro tip for anyone feeling they are lacking magic or are feeling they have lost their magic.
When I lost my Magic, I had to take a good hard look on what I was focusing on DAILY. I slowly started adding 3 minute, 6 minute, 9 minute, 11 minute meditations/yoga practices in my life, and it changed everything for me. I also asked for help, being a Mom really pulled the rug out from under me. Before I was a Mom I was teaching 17 yoga classes a week, doing yoga trainings, going to weekend yoga events and retreats…all of that came to a screeching halt and even though I ALWAYS wanted to be a Mom, I never really understood how hard it would really be.
An interesting, fun fact about you to help us go get to know you better
I lived in Mexico City for a year and taught English at an American School. I lived in Japan for a year and taught English to get out of debt from my College Loans!
