I remember when I first started reading Tarot intuitively.

It was definitely one of those cartoon lightbulb moments where I could almost SEE the lightbulb appearing and shining bright above my head.

Prior to this moment I had always carefully chosen a spread, laid out the cards, and then dissected the meanings and placements thoroughly. While this served a purpose, I didn’t feel truly connected to what I was reading and quite often felt more like I had been studying for a chemistry test at the end than like I had been connecting to my highest self and divine guidance.

Your ego is the piece of you that loves to rationalize and remind you that fear, guilt, and shame exist. Everything that we experience in our day-to-day lives is filtered through our ego until we learn to lean into our intuitive selves and use that as our filter.

Tarot is a tool that can help you to do this. Working with the cards and your intuition together you will experience healing, knowing, and a connection to yourself that you forgot existed.

But, how do you do this? How do you move beyond the confines of your ego and the world around you and tap into your intuition with confidence and trust?

First I will give you the not-so-magical answer: Time, practice, and patience. One doesn’t learn to bake a world class souffle on the first shot. It’s no different for your relationship with your intuition. It’s re-learning about yourself. It’s remembering who you ARE at the core. It’s rewriting your present and shifting your future. Time. Practice. Patience.

Looking for some tangible strategies? I’ve got your back.

One of my favorite ways to unlock the door to my intuition also happens to be one of my favorite ways to encourage others to practice intuitive tarot. I call it: Rapid Fire Reading.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Grab your favorite deck of cards and get comfy cozy in your space, mind, and body
  2. Set a timer if you feel like you could use a little extra push to make sure that you complete the exercise
  3. Lay three cards down in front of you and as quickly as possible speak the message that has been presented (if you get stuck or feel like nothing is coming for you, simply put down three more and move along)
  4. Continue going until you’ve used your time or gone through the deck!

I bet that you have some questions right now. You may be wondering how you will know if you “got it right” or if you’ll never be an intuitive reader if you couldn’t think of any messages to speak out loud.

This isn’t about “getting it right” but about pushing through your ego and learning to create space for your intuition to shine it’s light. If you couldn’t think of anything to say, that’s totally cool!

Spend some time looking at the cards, maybe listen to one of our podcast episodes on the meanings of the different cards, and then try, try again.

Remember when I mentioned time, practice, and patience earlier? If you’re feeling frustrated, now’s a good time to remind yourself that everything worth anything is worth the wait and unlocking the door to your intuition is no exception.
